Because it has an extremely tight and efficient polymer network, it is when properly applied\nparticularly well suited for transitioning from existing oil-based painted surfaces to water-based\ncoatings. It is when properly applied useful as a stain blocker for many of the knot holes,\nwater-soluble stains and oils, tannins, and terpenes in wood which can “bleed through” to the surface\nupon the application of traditional waterbased primers. Like all Safecoat paints, it is the least toxic\nproduct of its type, and contains no naphtha or other aromatic solvents, and no formaldehyde, ethylene\nglycol, ammonia, acetone, heavy metals, crystalline silica or other carcinogenic or hazardous materials.\nSafecoat Transitional Primer is naturally low in odor, and unlike other paints contains no masking\nagents or fragrances to hide the smells of toxic chemicals. Surfaces to be stained with Safecoat DuroStain should be sound and cleaned or dirt,\ndust, grease, wax, silicone, soap and oil, and must be completely free of mold, mildew or fungus\ncontamination. Cleaning with an odorless, dye-free, all-purpose cleaner like SafeChoice Super Clean is\nrecommended. Previously painted or sealed surfaces will not accept stain readily. Consequently,\nstripping of old paint or sealer followed by rinsing and sanding will be required before application of\nSafecoat DuroStain to achieve maximum penetration from this product. Surface can be dampened with water\nto assist user in getting an even application. Porous woods with strong grain pattern can be tamed by\nusing thinned (50% with water) application of Safecoat DuroStain Clear. Safecoat DuroStain can be used\nas a glaze over painted and sealed surfaces.\n\u003ch3\u003eApplication\u003c\/h3\u003e\nAlways have adequate ventilation. Intermix (boxing) all containers of the same color to ensure\nuniformity before applying. Before using, stir Safecoat DuroStain well, then apply it evenly without\nreduction using a high-quality nylon or synthetic bristle brush. To adjust the intensity of color, best\nresults will be obtained by staining six foot sections (2' x 3') of the surface and wiping off excess\nstain while it is still wet to achieve the desired intensity of color. Always keep a wet edge. Darkness\nof stain may be increased by high surface porosity, wiping off less stain, or letting the stain dry\nlonger before wiping. A squeegee applicator can be beneficial when coating large flat surfaces like\ndoors. The shade of the stained surface will be affected by the color and type of wood. Reduce if\ndesired for spraying with up to 1\/2 pint of water per gallon. Always use a painter's mask when spraying.\nDo not apply in direct sunlight. Make sure to wipe off any excess stain which does not penetrate into\nthe wood. Note: these instructions are intended to be general only and not exhaustive. The applicator\nshould determine what preparation and techniques are best suited to the specific surface.\n\u003ch3\u003eClean Up\u003c\/h3\u003e\nUnder normal conditions, Safecoat DuroStain dries to touch in one hour and is re-coatable after two\nhours. Normal conditions include a dry surface, access to fresh air flow, moderate humidity, and\ntemperatures above 55 degrees F. Thick application, high humidity or conditions other than normal will\ncause Safecoat to dry and cure more slowly. Clean tools and equipment while they are still wet with a\nsolution of SafeChoise Super Clean or SafeChoice Safety Clean and warm water.
